The Retooling Schooling program series is presented by the Innovations in Education Project. The series brings together influential journalists, futurists, and nationally-recognized education experts for intimate conversations about the future of public education. Each of the five discussions will focus on ways to radically reshape learning in a shifting global economy so that education is relevant to the 21st century's needs and challenges.
These exchanges, geared specifically to journalists, will explore vital new ideas in education reform, address rarely asked questions, and examine new approaches to learning in a knowledge-based society. Many of the best practices and pioneering education models that will be discussed are already being employed in public schools. And though they aren't yet front page news, they soon will be. The Retooling Schooling programs will look at the impact that implementing these new strategies can have in California's upcoming "year of education reform," and inform national conversations about the future of public education.
Can we build a bridge from where the system is now to a viable future? We must.
The Retooling Schooling program series has been created exclusively for journalists concerned with changing education. The five conversations we will be presenting from October 2007 to June 2008 focus on the future of learning in America, and the hot button topics that all journalists interested in the development of this country's education system are tracking closely. Themes may include brain-based learning, the economic imperative of improving public education, the 21st century teacher, educational technology, social and emotional learning, career and technical education, and more.
By attending the Retooling Schooling program series you will get solid story ideas, access to experts, help in making contacts, pointers to rich online resources, and the opportunity to engage in in-depth dialogues and Q&A sessions with leading authorities on changing education.
